How To Tutor With Integrity When Not Everyone Does

There are two truths about high-quality test prep that, when combined, add up to a very real economic advantage for those who can afford it:

  1. It works. We are very good at what we do, quite possibly the best in the business. We raise scores, more than most and faster than any other outfit I have seen in the business.
  2. It costs money. Our tutors are highly experienced professionals. Many are dedicated full-time to the profession of tutoring. Most have graduate degrees. They see hundreds of kids and spend thousands of hours every year figuring out what makes each and every kid tick.

Given both the price and the effectiveness of our tutors, we run the very real risk of contributing to the regressive socioeconomic dynamic at play with the cheating scandal that is currently grabbing headlines. Of course, we are not cutting any corners. Our students work very hard for their results and they earn every point that they achieve. But we must also take active measures to use our superpower for the greater good. The nice thing about working with professional tutors is they understand their value and their impact. Every single Noodle Pro has come to me looking for opportunities to give back. They do this not because it is required, but because they are thoughtful and responsible practitioners in the educational space.

As a company, for years we have been proud to donate our time to three nonprofit entities dedicated to making higher ed accessible to students who have had none of the opportunities or privileges afforded to those you are hearing about in the news. They are The Opportunity Network, St. Joseph’s High School, and Minds Matter. We bring these students some of the best test prep available on the market today and love doing it. In addition, tutors are free to work out their own rates with clients based on need and circumstance. They regularly tutor pro bono students on their own, a practice we are pleased to support wholeheartedly. We also have tutors on boards of nonprofits serving young people in need of better educational opportunities, tutors volunteering their time to tutor in jails and prisons, and tutors with a host of other personal projects dedicated to giving the time and expertise back to the community.

We are proud of the work that we do with all of our students, at all price levels. Tutors don’t rise to the ranks of Noodle Pros unless they genuinely care for the well-being of their clients. First and foremost, as tutors, we are educators. Our goal is to give kids the skills they need to succeed. For that, there are no shortcuts, side doors, or back doors
