Biography
As a child, Dr. Anthony Krupp thought he would become a medical doctor; however, in college, he realized that Psychology more closely speaks to his interest in helping people. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies and Psychology from the University of Kentucky and his Master of Arts and Doctorate of Philosophy in German Studies from Johns Hopkins University. He spent two years in Germany as an exchange student and several summers as a research fellowship recipient; in the process, he became bilingual and suspects that he now has two discrete Broca’s areas. His graduate work involved him in multiple disciplines: he was paid to sing opera while he unearthed hidden documents in archives in East Berlin, and his research into the intellectual history of childhood has resulted in two peer-reviewed book publications and several articles.
Tony has received no fewer than seven separate teaching awards from local, national, and international entities (including the German government) for his innovative teaching at the University of Miami and at a prestigious IB school in Miami, Florida. He is also a published author. (Google him!) Over the past four years, Tony has devoted full-time attention to perfecting the craft of test preparation. He has not only logged thousands of hours tutoring and teaching; he has also authored Powerpoint slides and book chapters for ACT, PSAT, SAT, and MCAT Psychology/Sociology Manuals, as well as for TPR’s Cracking the AP Psychology Exam.
Tony loves helping students make the transition from fear of the unknown to delighting in their capabilities to meet it. He finds that his students learn best through deep and contextual discussion of concepts, and he loves to balance knowledge with joy in his classroom. His classroom are alive and alert, with visual aids, humorous mnemonics, and yet laser focus on the task. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that education is about teaching people to think intensively and critically; whenever his students tell him that his instruction in one subject helps them in an entirely different subject, he feels like he’s doing his job as a citizen of the world.
Testimonials from Tony’s prior students:
“It is with the highest confidence that I recommend Anthony as a tutor. I can truly not say enough wonderful things about him. I have had a lot of tutors throughout college and my journey to med school and he was undoubtedly the best tutor I’ve ever had. I never thought that I could ever think studying for the MCAT could be enjoyable or fun, but Anthony made it both. Every tutoring session was structured and organized to maximize the time spent and the amount learned. He tailored the time spent to my learning style and always had positive and instructive feedback. I felt that he prepared me very well for my MCAT.”
“Dr. Krupp is a wonderful tutor who managed to help me achieve a perfect 800 score on my SAT reading section and greatly increase my scores in the other sections as well. He is a very positive thinker, and this does help with the anxiety that accompanies an impending exam. His demeanor allowed me to go into the exam feeling optimistic, which is known to have a positive effect on testing scores. His explanations are interesting and effective, and sometimes even kind of hilarious. He also has analogies and mnemonic devices that were easy to remember and apply in the heat of the test. The best thing about Dr. Krupp is that he listens to his student, and what they consider important or pressing to study. Time is not wasted on skills already mastered. Rather, it is spent productively in areas where real progress can be made. With Dr. Krupp, studying for the SAT was a very organic and effective process, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone having trouble or wanting a good score on a standardized test.”
