Biography
J.’s interest in teaching goes back to his childhood in Rochester, New York, when he taught his younger sister how to read before she started first grade. A National Merit Finalist, J. took the SAT during his junior year of high school, scoring a perfect 1600 and making the cover of People magazine. In college, he worked as a peer writing tutor for his school’s Writing Center. Although he also always had a deep love for math, J. graduated with a major in English and then earned his Masters in Education, working as a middle school and high school English teacher as well as a professional writer.
J. currently works with students preparing for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, and LSAT. His students have ranged from high-energy middle schoolers to professionals in their 40s making career changes.
J. greatly enjoys working with students, and he has been proud over the years of how his students have improved as he boosts both their testing skills and their confidence. As one mother emailed him, “Thank you for opening up a whole new range of schools for my son to apply to.”
Based in Philadelphia, J. also works as a freelance writer and performer, recently creating the one-man show THE FREN BANKLIN EXPERIENCE – a hit at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival – where he becomes the imaginary long-lost cousin of the legendary Ben Franklin. J. enjoys reading a wide range of fiction and nonfiction, working out, volunteering for two local nonprofits that provide free mental health support, and making the best snickerdoodles in town.
